BECK
FRENA SHUTTER
R. & J. Beck, London, England 1893-1901
Shutter from a Beck Frena camera, model undetermined. Beck manufactured various models of the Frena
between about 1893 and 1901. Beck made many
of the lenses on their cameras, with Bausch & Lomb Shutters being found on
some of their folding style cameras. I
haven't determined who manufactured the Frena's sector-style shutter.
Most collectors (me included until now) have never seen a
Frena Shutter in its entirety. Being concealed
within the camera's interior, the only visible portion is seen through the lens
opening or through an access port at front on some models.
It's not exotic by most standards, but it is well built
and has a charm all its own.
